Photographic reconstruction of a tongue section stained with the Azan technique and observed with the objective of 10x. In the superior part of the microphotography is located the epithelium that covers the gustative papillae (with form of leaf), containing numerous gustative corpuscles. The excretory conduits of the Von Ebner´s glands end in the zone separating the papillae. Underneath the epithelium is placed a blue-stained lamina propria, formed by conjunctive tissue.  Below it are observed bundles of  striated muscle fibers, arranged transversely and longitudinally, and separated by conjunctive tissue septa. Details of these structures are observed at higher magnification in other microphotographies (framed zones red, green, yellow, and blue)
