Photographic reconstruction of the ovarian external cortex observed with the objective of 40x. Going from outside inwards we can distinguish the cuboidal epithelium, the thin conjunctive-type tunica albuginea (yellow), and the follicles at different development stages. In this microphotography are visible, first, the primordial follicles and next, three primary follicles. One of the primary follicles is in an initial development stage and the other two are in a later development stage, all surrounded by conjunctive stroma. Each primary follicle is surrounded by a basal membrane, as well as one or more layers of cells corresponding to the granular layer, according to the follicle development stage, a thick red-stained zona pellucida and, finally, the oocyte cytoplasm.
