from outside inwards we can notice part of the
cortical parenchyma,
endodermis (yellow)
and
pericycle,
phloem
and
xylem.
Between phloem and xylem is located the
vascular cambium,
a meristem responsible for the formation of new vascular
elements of both types. Outwards the phloem appears a bundle of
sclerenchyma fibers.
In the xylem we can distinguish the elements of
protoxylem,
of smaller caliber (originated early) and of
metaxylem,
of greater thickness (originated later). In between are located
xylematic parenchyma
cells, showing red-stained (due to safranin) lignified walls
