The MATRAS research group is part of the Department of Physics of the University of Jaén, the research being focussed on Energy and Meteorology. We are also part of the Task 36 Solar Resource Knowledge Management of the international Energy Agency (IEA).

The MATRAS ongoing research project aims:

1. To evaluate the wind and solar energy resources in Andalusia (Spain), particularly the temporal and spatial complementarity.
2. To develop techniques to forecast the solar energy resources hours-days ahead.
3. To analyze the variability of solar and wind energy resources under climate change.

• Wind and solar energy resources evaluation in Andalusia (Spain)

  Wind and solar energy resources evaluation in Andalusia using the WRF numerical weather prediction model estimates and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

• Forecasting the solar energy resources

  Forecasting of the solar energy resources (direct, diffuse and global irradiation) based on the WRF model with a forecast horizon of up to 72 hours.

• Analysis of the wind and solar energy resources variability under Climate Change

  The aim is to obtain estimates of the wind and solar energy resources in Andalusia during the XXI century, under Climate Change scenarios, using dynamical downscaling based on the WRF model.
