Solar Resource Knowledge Management

Jaén, December 16, 2008

Dear Friends, Partners and Colleagues,

It is a pleasure to invite you all to participate in the 6th Experts Meeting of the IEA Task 36 that will take place in Baeza (Jaén), from the 17th to 19th March 2009. We welcome you three days at the Campus of the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) in Baeza (Jaén, Spain).

The province of Jaén, and the region of Baeza, are famous by their olive oil production. The historical city of Baeza (17.000 inhabitants) is located in the very heart of the province of Jaén. It is unique example of the arrival of Renaissance trends in Spain, as you can see from their streets packed with churches, palaces and stately houses. The city has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The international University of Andalusia has several Campuses along the Andalusia region, one in this city, in a set of historical buildings, where the meeting will take place.

Aim of the meeting

Task 36 Solar Resource Knowledge Management is a task under the International Energy Agency's Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) Programme. The Task participants form an international consortium of experts who are involved in the analysis and processing of data from ground measurements and satellite data for purposes of developing large-area site-time specific products and maps of the solar energy resource. Task 36 focuses on benchmarking and validating data products, improving access to the various data resources, and developing improved products and new services, with a special emphasis on short-term solar resource forecasting. The outcomes of the Task are aimed to support policy makers, solar energy industry, the electricity sector, and renewable energy institutions with the most suitable and accurate information of the solar resource at the Earth's surface. The purpose of the 6th Experts Meeting is to review technical progress in each of the three Subtasks and to develop updates on Subtask deliverables, milestones, and timelines.
