Aspect of the ovarian cortex observed with the objective of
10x. We can see the
epithelium
(more externally located) and the underlying
conjunctive-type thin
tunica albuginea.
Under the tunica albuginea appear numerous
primordial follicles
and, more internally, there are other follicles at different
development stages (primary
and
secondary
follicles). In the secondary follicles, we can observe the
oocyte
surrounded by the
follicular antrum,
as well as cells of the
granular layer
and the
theca
(more externally located). Details of primordial and primary
follicles are offered in other microphotography at higher
magnification (zone framed in red)
