Hospital de Santiago (Úbeda)

The Conference will take place at the Cultural Center Hospital de Santiago in Úbeda from Sunday June 26th (arrival day) to Friday July 1st (departure day), 2011.

Úbeda. Built high in the Úbeda hills and surrounded by the mountains of the same name, this town is the capital of the Andalusian Renaissance, having reached its Golden Age in the 16th century. Remnants of its medieval period include the Clock Tower, the Keep, and the Cava and Rastro Towers. The monumental area surrounding the Plaza de Vázquez de Molina is made up of the Sacred Chapel of El Salvador, Palace of Deán Ortega (today the Parador), Las Cadenas Palace, the Town Hall and the Church of Santa María.

But Úbeda has many more Renaissance buildings outside the Plaza's perimeter. A walk through the town evokes past splendors. This is the ideal place for craft lovers as well, as they can purchase fine pottery, crafts made with esparto, and wrought iron work.
